Who makes WidgetScreen
WidgetScreen is an independent macOS app made by Sam Cook. It is privacy-focused and intentionally simple.
No account required
You do not need to create an account to use WidgetScreen. The app does not ask you to sign in, and it does not require your name, email address, or payment details.
What data is collected
WidgetScreen does not collect personal data for advertising, tracking, or profiling. Personal data is not sold.
The app may use a small amount of information only when it is needed to provide widget functionality, such as:
- Weather or location information, if you enable weather features or choose a custom city.
- Calendar information, if you enable calendar widgets and grant calendar access.
- Music or media information, if you enable now-playing widgets.
- Battery or system information, if you enable widgets that display those details.
Where possible, this information is handled locally on your Mac and used only to display the widgets you choose.
Weather data
Weather widgets may use Open-Meteo, a free weather service, to fetch current conditions and forecasts. If you use automatic weather location, the app may use a coarse location lookup or your chosen city so it can request the right forecast. This is used only to provide weather widget functionality.
Anonymous usage statistics
WidgetScreen sends a once-daily anonymous ping to count how many active users the app has. The ping contains only a randomly generated identifier created at install time. It is not linked to your name, email address, Apple ID, device serial number, or any other personal information.
The identifier is stored for 30 days and then deleted automatically. It is used solely to count distinct active installs and is never shared with third parties.
Premium purchases
If you choose to buy WidgetScreen Premium, the purchase is processed by Polar, a third-party payment provider. Polar handles your payment details and email address so it can deliver your licence key and receipt; WidgetScreen itself never sees or stores your payment information. Polar's handling of your data is described in Polar's privacy policy.
On-device behavior
WidgetScreen is designed to run on your Mac. Your widget choices, layout, and settings are stored locally where practical. The app does not need Screen Recording permission and does not read or upload your wallpaper.
Permissions
macOS may ask for permission before WidgetScreen can access certain types of information. You can choose whether to grant these permissions, and you can change them later in System Settings.
Depending on which widgets you enable, permissions may include location or weather-related access, calendar access, media or now-playing access, and battery or system information access.
